Rupp Smoked Austrian
Aug 9th, '06

The smoked Austrian was one of the cheeses from the Monty Python skit that I knew was going to be trouble. I had no doubt there was plenty of cheese being smoked in Austria, but online searches and queries to cheese shops had turned up nothing. It was looking like the best way to get some would be to fly to Austria and head to the local mega-mart.

So it was with great glee that I spotted this little gem while trolling for random cheeses in Whole Foods. At first I didn't even notice what I had. There were just a bunch of smoked imported cheeses in the mix that day and this happened to be one of the ones I grabbed. Pure luck.

The cheese itself was good, but not worth seeking out. It tasted much like any number of other smoked processed cheeses. And the other smoked cheeses I got that day where all better. But no matter. I got it. It's checked off the list. And that's a good thing.
